DCN Dx announces first Rapid Testing Innovation Award: $10,000 cash prize and recognition from the rapid point-of-care diagnostics industry

Carlsbad, California – DCN Dx, in collaboration with Qiagen Lake Constance, is pleased to announce the first Rapid Testing Innovation Award, to be presented at the 2018 Advanced Lateral Flow Course in October. This competitive prize includes a cash award of $10,000 and will recognize the best innovation in the field of rapid point-of-care assays or the most novel application for rapid assays during the past year.

The creation of the Rapid Innovation Award is intended to recognize and incentivize creativity and entrepreneurship with the goal of positively impacting human health, veterinary or environmental testing, biological, chemical or radiological defense, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food safety and any other area where a rapid test can be used.

“We’re very excited to offer this award to the best and brightest in the rapid point-of-care diagnostics industry,” said John L. Tonkinson, Ph.D., chief business development officer at DCN, the sponsoring organization. “DCN takes great pride in supporting scientists and engineers as they blaze new trails in lateral flow technology across a variety of applications and industries.”

Eligibility and awardee selection

  • The award is open to any individual or group in both for-profit and non-profit organizations, subject to their own organization’s rules, regulations and restrictions.
  • All applications will be reviewed and 5 finalists will be selected to present their submission at the ALFC 2018.
  • All 5 finalists will receive one free admission to the ALFC ($1,600 value). In the event a group submission is selected as a finalist, a single free admission will be awarded to that group.
  • A select panel of industry experts at the ALFC will judge the presentations and select the winner. The decision of the judges is final. DCN Dx will not be involved in the final judging.
  • The cash award will be presented in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the awardee by their institution.

Instructions and timeline for submitting a proposal

  • DCN Dx will post a submission form on LateralFlow.com on June 1, 2018.
  • Submissions are due no later than August 15, 2018, at 5PM PDT.
  • 5 finalists will be notified on September 4, 2018.
  • The ALFC will be held October 23 – 25 in San Diego and each finalist will give a 10-minute presentation during the course of the meeting.
  • The award will be presented on Thursday, October 25, 2018.
